PASCAL 2016 in Glasgow, 3-5 June: Prize from SAGE for best student paper

SAGE, the publisher of the Journal of Adult and Continuing Education (JACE), which is edited from the University of Glasgow, is pleased to be able to offer a book prize of £100 to the best paper submitted and presented by a student.

Bristol Inclusion Workshop on Increasing the Wellbeing of all Citizens

The Bristol Learning City organised the third of the PASCAL Inclusion Workshops on the 12th November on the subject of Increasing the wellbeing of all citizens and communities in a city of contrasts. This followed PASCAL LEarning Cities Networks' Inclusion Workshops in Townsville and Glasgow.

PASCAL 2016 in Glasgow, 3-5 June 2016, Strand 1 Inclusion: providing lifelong learning opportunities for all

Inclusion has been central to the concept of a learning city from the beginning. While useful work has been undertaken in addressing exclusion in both the PASCAL International Exchanges (PIE) and Learning Cities Networks (LCN) programs, global contextual shifts and issues with mass migration flows, instability and high unemployment in many countries, and structural industry changes have raised a new generation of exclusion issues to add to the traditional issues in various stages of the lifecourse. PASCAL will be addressing these issues at their 13th International Conference in Glasgow, 3-5 June, 2016.

This special issue will focus on strategic knowledge-based development frontiers in employment, migration, health, food security and climate change, and cultural engagement. These global issues pose problems at every level, down to micro-districts. They are strategic because what happens will determine the kind of cities and regions in which we will live. They are on the frontier because they generate conflict or could lead to greater co-operation. And they are critical to knowledge-based development because we do not know how to solve them; indeed, we do not even know how to cope with them very well, unsolved.
