PASCAL Observatory is pleased to announce that the Latin American City of Villa Maria (Argentina) has become a member of the Learning Cities Networks (LCN) initiative.

Sherwan's predicament is part of what has been described by Amnesty International as human rights abuse in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. According to investigations by Amnesty International, ‘In mid-August 2020, widespread protests erupted in the KR-I, mainly in Sulaimaniyah, Duhok and Erbil, demanding an end to corruption, better public services, and the payment of overdue salaries of government employees'.

Learning Cities as Inclusive Learning Ecosystems

The UNESCO Futures of Education Commission in March 2021 issued a Progress Update on this initiative. A point of particular interest from the perspective of learning cities and communities was a comment on “The organisation and governance of education: building inclusive educational ecosystems” (UNESCO, 2021:13).

Workshop on Cultural Heritage and Impact Assessment: Report for the second online workshop, 19 May, 2021

This joint meeting was the second online workshop and third cross-organisation meeting between PASCAL International Observatory (Learning City Network on Cultural Heritage Education), the European Museums Academy (EMA), and SoPHIA – a project aiming to further promote collective reflection with the cultural and political sectors in Europe on the impact and quality of interventions in the European historical environment and cultural heritage at an urban level to promote a holistic impact assessment model, indicators, and standards.

On Thursday 13 May 2021, Learning Limerick and Wyndham Learning City partnered to co-lead a webinar entitled: Transformation Through Empathy Partnerships. This was an initiative led through the PASCAL EcCoWell group, building on the paper developed by Peter Kearns in 2020.
