The 13th International Congress of Educating Cities held in Barcelona in November adopted a Declaration on Inclusion in Educating Cities. 838 participants from 189 cities in 34 countries attended the conference.

Cities learning together - Public administration as a domain for smart solutions - Report of 3rd LC2020 workshop 12/13 June 2014

The objective of the event, the third in the PASCAL Learning Cities 2020 workshop series, was to bring about an awareness of the role and needs of local communities in relation to learning, and to seek smart solutions in which cities and other public organizations can play a greater role in response to those needs. The workshop was attended by some 80 people from a number of different counties. There were 18 presentations in the workshop including the keynote presentations. The attached document summarises some of the main issues from the workshop.

Adult education and place: a vital link for learning cities - Policy Briefing 5 from PASCAL International Observatory

The importance of adult education has been affirmed in recent policy documents in several countries, justified in terms of its benefits to individuals and the wider benefits society draws from having a better educated population. Rarely is policy on adult education tied in to policies on the development of place, especially to current interest in the development of learning cities. This paper identifies policy drivers essential for embedding learning in the processes of learning cities.

Connecting Research with Cities

In early 2014, the Future Cities Catapult, the UK’s government-backed urban innovation centre commissioned the Urban Systems Laboratory at Imperial College London to outline what is happening on urban systems and technology development inside UK universities.
