Learning City concept launched in Greece

The City Council of Larissa in Greece and the Hellenic Adult Education Association together launched the Learning City Concept at the Adult Education and Local Society Conference, which was was addressed by Peter Jarvis, Peter Mayo and Ted Fleming in June 2015.

Ekaterinburg - the Open City

The project that we co-ordinate entitled, "The long stories of Ekaterinburg" is part of what we describe as the Open City, and in my opinion is very close to the elements of the Learning City. The project, which takes the form of competition to produce murals has been in existing for 8 years. Volunteers make new drawings each summer.

Building age and culture friendly learning communities and cities for inclusion: Report on the learning forum held in Townsville, Queensland in may 2015

In May 2015, the library hosted a Learning Forum in Townsville.  About 40 government, business and community sector participants attended the forum.  The theme of the forum was social inclusion and participants reflected on the topic Building age and culture friendly learning communities and cities for inclusion.

Due to a number of requests for extensions to the deadline for submissions of abstracts, the PASCAL Conference 2015 planning team has agreed to extend the deadline for their receipt until 1 June.

13th PASCAL International Conference to be held in Glasgow, 2016

The 13th PASCAL International Conference will be held at the University of Glasgow on 3-5 June, 2016. The conference will focus on future directions for Learning Cities at a time of significant challenge and opportunity for enterprising Learning Cities.

Erbil - Learning City developments

PASCAL subscribers will be interested to know that since the announcement that Erbil is planning to join the PASCAL Learning City Networks project, and sending a delegation to the Catania conference; I am being contacting by over a hundred people every day.

Cities and Citizen Engagement in the Digital Age - U21 Summer School - Glasgow - July 2015

July 2015, the University of Glasgow will play host to the U21 International Summer School for undergraduates in partner universities of the network. The theme will be Cities and Citizen Engagement in the Digital Age.

American Cities of Learning

A network of American Cities of Learning has emerged in the US with initiatives in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, Dallas, and Los Angeles. While Cities of Learning have much in common with Learning Cities they have a focus on youth rather than the whole lifecycle in most Learning Cities.
