UN-Habitat has been actively helping governments respond to and recover from COVID-19. Keynote speaker Maimunah Mohd Sharif and panellist Dr Eda share how UN-Habitat works with cities to address the pandemic, providing insights into city-level dynamics and highlighting the importance of collaboration for more resilient cities.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted many cities’ infrastructure plans and projects. At the same time, clearer skies and cleaner air since the lockdowns have also revealed that cities are key to better environments. How can cities bounce back from this crisis stronger, healthier and cleaner? How can they design and structure investments to insure them against continued uncertainty, and what are some best practices of development measures and approaches that would ensure the success of their projects?
After a longish break, we are delighted to invite you to join our last three Urban Studies seminars for this academic year via Zoom. Our first presenter on 26 May is Dr Darja Reuschke from the University of Southampton on the topic "Entrepreneurial Creativity in the City".

The Centre for Sustainable Healthy and Learning Cities (SHLC) is working to respond to urban challenges across fast-growing cities and neighbourhoods in Africa and Asia.

Thirteen expert contributors from diverse sectors envision what new, more resilient, and equitable districts might look like on higher ground, as we learn that not every risk can be mitigated. Rebuild, relocate, prevent, or brush aside, whatever you may think the future holds, explore the challenges climate change brings and what it means for urban planning.
Placemaker Week ASEAN 2019, presented by: Think City, UN-HABITAT, will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 4-8 November, 2019. This is the first placemaking conference in Southeast Asia highlighting best-in-class placemaking case studies from across the region, enabling Asia’s most passionate and innovative placemakers to share best practices and hone their expertise.
The relationship between learning and place extends the understanding of the learning city to a more local level, recognising that just as learning is fundamental to city and regional development, so it is to the character and opportunities that influence the quality of life in neighbourhoods and communities.
