The PASCAL-PIMA report on Good Active Ageing, which my wife Denise and I edited, was sent to all Australian and Commonwealth Ministers with responsibility for senior Australians. Most Ministers replied indicating the policies they had adopted. The paper featured below and attached gives a summary of responses from Ministers. There is also reference to a recent COTA survey of preference of seniors, and an overview of provision for learning by adults in America.

The 16th International Conference on Higher Education Reform (HER 2019) - Digital Society and Higher Education: Impact and Consequences for Policy - will be hosted by the Department of Educational Research, Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Mexico City on September 11-13, 2019. The report Towards Active Ageing for All of the PASCAL and PIMA SIG on Learning in Later Life has circulated widely across a number of countries and stimulated further exchanges on learning in later life. One of the countries not covered by the SIG report is America, where a rich variety of approaches to learning in later life exist.
In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) notions of lifelong learning in education become of paramount interest to governments charged with enacting the Goals and the accompanying goals and targets of the Education 2030 Framework for Action.
Museums are traditionally characterised by their way of working and not by their purpose. The public are not surprised that museums in general collect, preserve and display traces of art and history. The way museums produce is however not the same as the aim or purpose of museums. The role of museums in their community - local, national or even global - may differ but the museums way of working somehow supports or stimulate the aims and as always easiest to understand on some years distance.
