We are delighted to announce that the 11th Knowledge Cities World Summit (KCWS-2018) will be held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain in November 2018, sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands as a contribution to their aim to promote Knowledge-based Development in this autonomous region.
Over the past 20 years, European policy-makers have become increasingly conscious of the place-based dimension of regional and urban development, and have explored different policy approaches to distribute and share the learnings across a wide variety of regions in Europe. The impact of the Global Financial Crisis added some urgency to this question, as the European Union's Structural Funds constitutes the largest concerted effort aimed at economic development and achieving territorial cohesion.

The Strengthening Urban Engagement of Universities in Asia and Africa (SUEUAA) project is funded by the British Academy under the Cities and Infrastructure programme of its Global Challenges Research Fund. The project, led by the University of Glasgow, includes six international partners from Iran, Iraq, the Philippines, South Africa and is a collaborative study between University of Glasgow (Scotland), and Universities in Iran (University of Kurdistan), Iraq (University of Duhok), the Philippines (Philippine Normal University), Zimbabwe (University of Harare), Tanzania (University of Dar-es-Salaam), and South Africa (University of Johannesburg).
