Idowu Biao is a professor of Lifelong learning. He has spent his post-doctoral professional life teaching and researching adult & lifelong learning mainly in Nigeria, Lesotho, and Botswana. However, his professional activities have equally taken him to numerous other countries including Benin, Ghana, Cote-d’Ivoire, Mali, Malawi, South Africa, United Kingdom, Uganda, the Kingdom of Eswatini, and the United States of America.

Professor Biao has trained numerous post-graduate students in adult & lifelong learning across these countries and he has contributed close to one hundred (100) academic publications to the growth of the field of adult & lifelong learning. A number of these publications are in the area of Learning Cities in Africa. Professor Biao has equally developed a theory of social development (the Human Development Index Literacy theory) (see Biao (2011) International Critical Thought 1 (4), 385-396). This theory plays down on the role of capital formation but emphasizes the functions of literacy education and indigenous knowledge in the process of implementing socio-economic development. Professor Biao speaks fluently and writes well in both English and French.

Professor Biao is currently engaged with the authorities of the Université d’Abomey Calavi, Cotonou in a discussion that may lead to the establishment of a Department of Lifelong learning in that university. As part of this process, an international bilingual conference on lifelong learning is being proposed for Cotonou during the month of June 2021. A number of international development partners including the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong learning, the French Lifelong learning Network, CR&DALL University of Glasgow and others are already examining ways and means for partnership with this project.
