Declaration of Taipei as a Learning City

We firmly believe that helping city citizens to pursue lifelong learning ensures a sustainable development of Taipei city. Therefore, learning must be regarded as a continuing, lifelong process for improving the knowledge and skills needed in the city life as well as for fostering the self realization of the city dwellers.  We pledge to make redoubled efforts to promote the following urban development visions:

  • Taipei as a Cultural City – to learn to appreciate art, embrace art in one’s life, preserve indigenous cultural heritage, and safeguard cultural assets.
  • Taipei as an Eco City – to promote a sustainability-basic lifestyle, encourage energy conservation and carbon reduction, go green at home, and protect the environment and wildlife.
  • Taipei as a Waterfront City – to upgrade the quality of nearby waters, improve riverbank surroundings, create a mood of contentment, and encourage citizens to enjoy a lifestyle that’s water-friendly.
  • Taipei as a Healthy City – to raise awareness of health, enhance the quality of life, encourage the senior citizens to take part in leisure activities, and build a hospitable and sustainable environment for citizens.
  • Taipei as a Safe City – to promote the development of safe communities, advance living and working fulfillment, follow world trends in accreditation and certification, and heighten global awareness about Taipei.
  • Taipei as a Welfare & Wellbeing City – to launch outreach voluntary service, reach out to the underprivileged, foster multiculturalism, and promote harmony living among different ethnic groups.

We are more than willing to learn and grow together with anyone who identifies with the idea of building a family that enjoys continued learning, creating a dynamic learning community of creativity, and finally ensuring a learning city of friendliness and hospitality.

In brief, we sincerely believe that lifelong learning leads to the self improvement of the residents in Taipei and the substantial progress of the city as a whole.
