Call for Abstracts for Edited Book on Creative Business Transition Programs

Increases in elderly populations and population declines expected in the next decade and longer will cause rural areas and small towns, especially, to lose many essential long-standing businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Retirements of elderly long-time owners, loss of young families to larger centers, and other issues will make it difficult to transition these businesses to new owners. At the same time, the businesses are critical to maintaining a high quality of life and viability of the communities.

PIMA Bulletin No. 28 - January 2020

In many countries, it is held (and opinion-polled) that older adults are conservative, while the young out on the streets to chant and fight for radical change. This PIMA Bulletin bears witness to the fact that this is not necessarily accurate. Not all older PIMA contributors – notably regular columnists as represented in this issue No 28 – are ‘conservative’ (see below Findsen and Houston on words that matter). They tend to value history for what it teaches. They abhor the wish to erase the past with its lessons, whether uplifting or dire. They try to own and learn from experience, and to change policy and behaviour. Hence our exploration in 2019 of anniversaries and where ahead they point.

PIMA Bulletin No. 27 - November 2019

This Issue of the PIMA Bulletin, Number 27, carries forward themes started in recent issues: the Climate Crisis and the recent PIMA Webinar; our special interest group topics of Later Life Learning, and Sustainable Development, also a 2019 strand on ALE anniversaries, ‘looking back to go forward better’; an anthology of other News and Views from members, and a welcome to the latest new members from three continents in our steady inward flow. Note in particular the PIMA ‘hot centre’ at venerable Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Can we see our way to nurturing other such sites elsewhere which purposefully share information and support tomorrow’s leadership?

PIMA Bulletin No. 26 - September 2019

This is a bumper edition of the Bulletin in return to school and work month in the northern hemisphere, for the undeniably big reason that we face ecological catastrophe that has led to use of the term Extinction Crisis. It is striking how global warming, something now well- known and established for decades - and long strenuously denied by those with much to lose from the required changes of culture, lifestyle and behaviour – has suddenly burst into life and popular consciousness…

Call for Chapter Abstracts - Researchers at Risk: The Precarious Positions of Scholars Conducting Dangerous Enquiries

This proposed edited research book is focused on the phenomenon of researchers at risk – that is, the experiences and perceptions of scholars whose topics of research require them to engage with diverse kinds of dangers, uncertainties or vulnerabilities.

Sometimes this risk derives from working with variously marginalised individuals and groups, or from being members of such groups themselves; at other times, the risk relates to particular economic or environmental conditions and/or political forces influencing the specific research fields in which they operate.

Would you like to work in support of civil society organisations worldwide? Join the INTRAC team.
