Learning cities and cultural diversity. The conference Learning Cities and Cultural Diversity was held in Italy in February 2017. Cultural diversity is an important, highly topical issue in Italy. The country received over 10,000 asylum applicants in 2016 alone; new ways in which to integrate the refugees and asylum seekers fleeing conflict and violence in different parts of the world must therefore be explored. ‘Global goals, local actions: Towards lifelong learning for all in 2030’ is the theme of the third International Conference on Learning Cities. It will take place from 18 to 20 September 2017 in Cork, Ireland. Participants will be looking at ways to close the gap between the internationally agreed upon Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and local realities in order to establish a global action plan that will guide cities in implementing lifelong learning and promoting sustainable development.
