SMEs and Trade with Europe: Implications for Innovation
31 March 2022 Noon - 1:30 pm (Melbourne time)
You are invited to this online seminar to discuss some of the issues for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in international trade, implications for their capacity to innovate, and how a potential Australia-European Union Free Trade Agreement might enhance trade opportunities for SMEs.
Bilateral trade agreements have come to be seen as being a key means by which governments enhance opportunities for companies to gain access to foreign markets.
Since 2018, Australia and the European Union have been engaged in negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement.
European research has demonstrated that for SMEs, trade with at least one other nation contributes to greater productivity and to innovation. SMEs are a key stakeholder for the Australia-EU trade negotiations.
This event will report on progress towards concluding the Australia-EU negotiations. It will then provide for a moderated discussion about issues for SMEs engaged in international trade, implications for their capacity to innovate, and how the Agreement might enhance their trade opportunities.
