The “Vienna Knowledge City” is a holistic concept of a City that combines knowledge, art and crafts, intellectual heritage, innovative business and quality of living. After painful destruction and loss of knowledge during two world wars, Vienna regained its position as a world-leading Knowledge City at the heart of Europe and of the United Nations.
Since Vienna is willing to be an example for others who wish to follow the same path, the theme of ‘Knowledge for Development’ is selected as the overall theme of KCWS-2016.
The Summit aims to contribute to the discussion on the importance and trends of knowledge-based development theory and practice. Academics, professional practitioners, civil servants and policy-makers of the world are included in the discussions from a wide range of disciplines to share their knowledge and experiences with the summit delegates. In addition to significant academic and professional presentations, the Summit will also provide opportunities for practical exercises in workshops and small group sessions in innovative formats.
As part of the KCWS-2016, a “PhD Consortium” is planned to provide postgraduate research students an invaluable opportunity to present, discuss and get feedback on their research projects from the international experts of their fields. The Summit will be organized as part of the ‘Knowledge Week Vienna’ other events on the topic of Knowledge Management and Knowledge-Based Development will also take place during the week. The ICKM International Conference on Knowledge Management (10-11 October 2016), the KCWS 2016 and the International Conference K4Dev – Knowledge for Development (14 October 2015) will form a unique opportunity to meet the global knowledge community and to enjoy the diversity of perspectives that form the knowledge society as a whole.
