The 6th Annual Access to Higher Education and Student Success Summit
The 6th Annual Access to Higher Education and Student Success gives the opportunity to learn about and discuss the ‘state of the nation’ with regard to access, participation and student success issues in HE; including a unique opportunity to hear and discuss the findings, analysis, and recommendations made by the cross sector Social Mobility Advisory Group invited by government to explore what universities are doing that works and address what more needs to be done.
Key themes of the Sixth Access to Higher Education Summit include:
- Findings and recommendations of the Social Mobility Advisory Group
- Taking the Social Mobility Advisory Group recommendation forward
- Inclusion of BME students
- Inclusion of white working class boys
- Changes to school careers and IAG
- Collaborations with schools and colleges
- Marketisation; the threats and opportunities
Why are we talking about Access to higher education and Student Success now?
In January 2016 Universities UK announced the launch of the Social Mobility Advisory Group, which, following an invitation from the government, published a report for the Minister for Universities and Science, Jo Johnson MP: Working in Partnership: enabling social mobility in higher education.
Recommendations in the report will also be fed back to the Prime Minister, following recent announcements about proposed changes for the education sector, which will affect access and participation in higher education.
The summit will be a mixture of plenary sessions and expert-led workshops, which will set out and debate political, institutional and operational perspectives on access and widening participation issues for 2016/17 and beyond.
This one-day national conference - organised by Action on Access and Universities UK - will bring together sector leaders to discuss and debate the challenge of widening participation to higher education in a changing policy landscape.
