Queensland as an Age -friendly community

Thye Queensland Government has now released its Action Plan for the development of Queensland as an Age-friendly Coimmunity. This vfollows consultations onthis subject and the release previously of a Strategic Directions document. The Action Plan follows, in general, the World Health Organisation approach to building an Age-friendly but also takes account of priorities emerging from consultations.

The Action Plan addresses Outdoor space and buildings, Transport, Housing, Social Participation, Respect and Social Inclusion, Civic participation and employment, Communication and information, Community bsupport anf health services. Little is said about lifelong learning in the Action Plan although learning is one of the WHO four pillars for active ageing. There is a need to clarify the role that lifelong learning and learning cities can play in active ageing and building age-friendly cities. PASCAL welcomes comments on this subject, especially any experience that cities have had in building learning into Age-friendly initiatives. Please let me know if there is interest in this subject as an aspect of connecting the work of Learning Cities and Healthy Cities possibly with a PASCAL notwork sharing ideas and experience.
