The Talloires Network E-Newsletter - February 2020

The Talloires Network is one of the partners with whom PASCAL collaborates. The Network enjoys a high profile and is among the several national and international bodies encouraging universities worldwide to adopt a more centrally-focussed universities' 'third mission' commitment to community service in its different senses and settings.

Talloires Network Newsletter

Tufts University || Medford, Massachusetts, USA || 11 February 2020
Dear Colleagues,

Together, we accomplished a great deal in 2019. In the final weeks of December, sixty-three member universities submitted a vote in our Steering Committee election and we welcomed our new Steering Committee member Pakiname Mamdouh, Program Manager for Ma’an Arab University Alliance for Civic Engagement (American University in Cairo, Egypt). Coventry University (England) became the newest addition to the Network’s growing Engaged Membership. And the Secretariat relocated to the newly renovated Barnum Dana Hall located on the central quad of Tufts University campus and on boarded two staff to assist with conference planning and implementation.

2020 promises to be a dynamic year of growth and learning for all our members and partners. Supported by a generous grant from the Open Society Foundations, the Network launched the University Award for Innovative Civic Engagement on 30 January. This pilot program seeks to discover and support novel university civic engagement partnerships that actively contribute to gender equality and also advance diversity and inclusion. It also facilitates critical reflection as well dialogue and exchange among awardees and members of the Network.

Registration is now open for the Talloires Network Leaders Conference 2020, TNLC2020.  An impressive lineup of speakers from around the world will guide our conversations on the power and responsibility of engaged universities. Breakout and networking sessions will allow participants to explore ideas and forge collaborations for action on important issues. These include: the roles of universities in advancing climate justice, constructive engagement for addressing polarization and inequality, innovative practices for creating more inclusive societies, and building a global university-community engagement classification. To ensure a mix of voices and perspectives from around the world, we are offering more than 60 travel grants to support the participation of leaders from the Talloires Network membership who might not otherwise have the financial resources necessary to come to the conference. We hope someone from your university will join us! Visit the TNLC2020 website now to learn more and register.

We are very excited to announce the start of the Renaming Initiative Design Competition – an international design competition for a new Talloires Network name and logo. We invite individuals and teams representing our member institutions to participate. The winner of the competition will receive an invitation to take the stage to reveal the new logo at TNLC2020, a cash prize of 2,500 USD, and a TNLC2020 travel grant.

Thank you for your help in everything we accomplished throughout 2019. This year, we hope our members will enjoy these and other movement-building opportunities.

Sincerely,
Anthony P. Monaco
