European Challenges: The Baltic Outlook

The EU Centre at RMIT in conjunction with the EU Centre on Shared Complex Challenges at the University of Melbourne, will host a seminar at RMIT on Wednesday, 18 March from 12-2pm, at which HE Andris Teikmanis, Ambassador of Latvia to Australia and New Zealand will be speaking on the topic of ‘European Challenges; the Baltic Outlook’.

Mr Teikmanis’ impressive career spans various continents and appointments. He started out on the Riga Police Board in 1983, becoming a judge just five years later, and then Chairman of Riga City Council in 1990. Following Latvia’s restoration of independence, he was his country’s Ambassador to the Council of Europe (1995-98). The Latvian Presidency of the EU Council took effect on 1 January, 2015.

Mr Teikmanis has held posts as Latvia’s Ambassador to Germany (1998-2002) and the Russian Federation ( 2005-2008), was the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Latvia ( 2008-2013), and was appointed Latvia’s Ambassador to the UK, Australia and New Zealand in 2013.
