Taipei Learning Neighbourhoods pilots
The Taipei Learning City has finalised their Learning Neighbourhood pilot projects with a two day workshop hosted by the Department of Education of Taipei City Government. The workshop reviewed the outcomes of initiatives in 115 communities over 6 years, and was distinctive with the second day of the workshop held in two communities so that the actual situation in these communitie could be observed by participants in the workshop.
The Taipei Learning City has been underactive development since 2010 with the broad cross-sectoral approach adopted influencing the approach of PASCAL to our EcCoWell initiative directed at holistic development in cities. A feature of Taipei development has been the important role of community colleages with colleages established in each of the administrative districts of Taipei. The partnership of community colleages with the library system has been important in the development of Taipei as a Learning City.
The Learning Neighbourthood Worksop on the second day (July b29) moved to Zhong Qin Village and later to Jiuru Community Development Association in Nangang District.. The Zhong Qin visit enabled the Nangag Community College and the Village administration to report on steps that have been takento preserve the Si-Feng River.
Learning Neighbourhood pilot projects are also being conducted in Cork. Fostering initiatives at a local level is an important aspect of building sustainable learning cities. Much could be gained by furtherLearng projects in other cities. These can be built around exising initiatives as Taipei hs done. Any participants in Networks interested in conducting another Learning Neigbourhopodinitiative should contact me.
