MOU on Growing Lifelong Learning in Cork
On June 12th an historic MOU was signed by the Lord Mayor of Cork, representing the city council, the Presidents of University College Cork and the Cork Institut of Technology, and the chief executive of the Cork Education and Training Board to commit these organisations to work together in the development of Cork as a Learning City. The MOU continues the pattern of innovations in Cork in fostering the development of Cork as a Learning City. These include the highly successful annual Lifelong Learning Festival, the initiatives by Cork to promote the PASCAL EcCoWell holisticd developmenjt in Learning Cities, and the adoption by the Cork City Council of the UNESCO Beijing Declaration on Building Learning Cities. Cork will be one of the UNESCO case studies on Learning Cities which will be presented at the forthcoming UNESCO Second International Conference on Learning Cities at Mexico City on 28-30 September. The Cork story illustrates how one innovation leads to another as an enterprising learning culture is build up in a city with a cadre of innovators who work together.
