Hume Library International Library of the Year

The Hume Learning City Library at Craigieburn has been  named the International Public Library of the Year by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions at the World Library and Information Congress in Lyon France.Craigieburn is the second Global Learning Centre developed by Hume City Council in Melbourne Australia with the LIbrary the centrepiece of the Centre.

This success follows an earlier award in May as Australia's Favourite Library Service, selected by the Australian Library and Information Association following a national poll. The Broadmeadows and Craigieburn libraries have been central to the success of the Hume Global Learning Village.Their recogtnition in these prestigious awards points to the key role that public libraries can play in building sustainable learning communities which bring a range of educational, social, cultural, and economic benefits to their communities. It would be useful to have blogs on the contributions that public libraries have made in other cities. Participation by libraries and library systems in the Harnessing Cultural Policies Network of PASCAL would be very welcome. Anyone interested can contact me.
