What I aspire for Kigali: I am keen to see inclusive and sustainable urbanization in the city of Kigali, especially in the housing sector, which impacts other sectors of urban development.  The city actually houses 505 of Rwanda’s urban population and studies have established that affordable housing will account for 70% of the dwelling units needed in the city by 2028. One of the realities we have to accommodate is that 58 percent of Kigali residents are low-income earners who earn less than Rwf100,000 per month and yet they are our residents and so they deserve access to decent housing.

A promising conversation is happening around this issue, whereby, On one side, the government will inject funds towards developing affordable housing as well as upgrading infrastructure in the areas such as the addition of tarmac roads and stormwater drainages. On the other, participatory processes and new approaches are being deployed to integrate the poor in the development of housing projects.
