While the historical periods of peak intellectual activity may have passed and traditional centres of Islamic learning faced challenges and declines, efforts are ongoing to revitalize and preserve the rich intellectual heritage of these cities.

We are very pleased that two of our Associate Directors in Europe, Balazs Nemeth and Roberta Piazza, are presenting at an ASEM LLL Hub Research Network 6 webinar on 21 September 2023 from 1000-1400 CET. The topic is the celebration in honour of UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities, which was initiated 10 years ago, and speakers also include former director of UIL, Arne Carlsen, and current deputy director Raul Valdes-Cotera. Both have been core to the success of the GNLC. We are also pleased that two of PASCAL's longstanding Learning City Network members, Pecs and Cork are strongly represented. PASCAL and its LCN are supporting the event.
