It led many of those cities under lockdown to struggle with keeping a balance between following social distancing and keeping the nationwide economy afloat.

Learning Cities COVID-19 recovery: from research to practice | A Learning Cities Webinar Series

The aims of this webinar series are first to highlight important and challenging aspects of learning city development, drawing on recent research and development work in PASCAL and UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, and second to demonstrate the practical application of successful approaches in learning cities to address the issues described by offering a conceptual dialogue. In so doing, the intention will be to build the capacity in learning cities to take forward their own responses and approaches to the challenges they face.

During the past month, UNESCO learning cities have shared their experiences in facing current challenges through webinars on issues such as distance education, refugees and migrants, and health, as well as through video interviews.

Call for Abstracts for Edited Book on Creative Business Transition Programs

Increases in elderly populations and population declines expected in the next decade and longer will cause rural areas and small towns, especially, to lose many essential long-standing businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Retirements of elderly long-time owners, loss of young families to larger centers, and other issues will make it difficult to transition these businesses to new owners. At the same time, the businesses are critical to maintaining a high quality of life and viability of the communities.
