This online event is part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities Lifelong Learning Festival from 30 October to 3 November 2023 being held in Shanghai, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Global Network of Learning Cities.

Glasgow Learning City Working Group

In building the Learning City in Glasgow, the city has established a Working Group, including representatives from Glasgow City Council, Higher and Further Education Institutions and the Third Sector. This ensures that all learning city stakeholders take a coordinated approach to promoting the learning city concept. Furthermore, the group coordinates the strategic process and policy dialogues toward an innovative and inclusive Learning City that supports lifelong learning opportunities for all the citizens of Glasgow.

New Briefing Paper - Connecting People and Planet for a Sustainable Future

We are pleased to make available to PASCAL subscribers a further paper in the EcCoWell series by Peter Kearns, entitled, Connecting People and Planet for a Sustainable Future.

This paper examines how PASCAL EcCoWell 3 could be further developed as a path to a sustainable future in a turbulent period of disruptive change. The paper draws on the 2021 UNESCO Reimagining the Future Together report in its assessment of the critical situation confronting humanity and the planet requiring transformation of the world towards “a more just, equity, and sustainable future”.

Building a Culture of Lifelong Learning as a Creative Learning Process

Learning cities are challenged by a turbulent environment in which a number of mega changes have interacted to produce an uncertain future. While the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is centre stage, the looming impacts of ageing populations and the transition to a longevity society, and the impact on jobs of the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, including artificial intelligence, have combined to challenge the foundations of our current society.

EcCoWell 3 as Follow up on the 2020 EcCoWell Community Recovery Program

The attached paper develops the concept of EcCowell 3 as an innovative learning ecosystem directed at traditional objectives of learning cities. This is a follow-up on the 2020 EcCoWell Community Recovery Program which included a number of innovations for learning cities.
